Ideas about photography to improve your image-making

This tutorial section is about addressing everything that happens away from the camera, from self reflection and personal journeys to approaches that will influence and improve your photography in the field, some of which you will find in the core Modules 1 & 2.

The vast majority of available online photography tutorials cover how to improve specific photographic skills.  Whilst this is invaluable and we examine this elsewhere in Creative Camera, they rarely touch on the background thinking and ideas about photography which is essential for you to make stronger images.

Many of Creative Camera’s ideas about photography are designed to help with picture making local to you.  Often as photographers we pass or ignore these locations as they seem too familiar to us.  There are however strategies for re-seeing these places and you will learn from some of these here.

Personal reflections from skilled photographers will in time become an ongoing feature of tutorials.  Aside from making fascinating reading, the motives, aspirations and struggles of both professional and amateur photographers can teach us much.

In many cases what’s written here will reflect the typical obstacles that all photographers who are hoping to develop creatively will face from time to time.  ‘A year with my camera’ by Anshul Khurana looks at this from a personal perspective.  The tutorial ‘adding concept to landscape pictures’, examines ways in which you can develop an ongoing project with the land close to where you live.

The internet is a remarkable resource and hopefully the contributions here will only enrich that.  In trawling the internet over the few years, I’ve found invaluable nuggets dotted here and there which have spurred me on to investigate other photographic practice and photographic approaches.  Such are the connecting trails that lead us towards own project ideas.

We are always interested in contributors here at Creative Camera.  If you have an interesting perspective on a photographic process or insights into the thinking that goes in to image-making, then get in touch online with your idea.
